I may be living in a ranch house

but I still miss all my NYC and blog friends. What have you all been up to?

We've been in Portland for 3 weeks and completely love it. The people, the weather, the food, the neighborhoods, the sights and sounds, all. I want to catch you all up, but the prospect of that is overwhelming right now. I'm loving taking pictures, and if you want to see some check my photopage, but I'm really behind on both blog reading and email writing (sorry!) But as things start to settle down, I finally feel myself getting into some kind of groove here, so I'm sure I'll be back on the internet wave before you know it!

Michelle said...: yep, that's it! it's definitely one of the funkiest looking houses on the block (the others are more old style bungalows or four squares, etc). but we just read an article about how ranch houses are the next "in" thing -- ha ha!

Knit Along

BAMBOO

Alchemy Bamboo. I would love to knit with this. All the colors look great, but I especially love the look of "Koi pond" and "She threw a brick."

Classic Elite Bamboo. So soft! I made "Branching Out" using 4 balls of citrine, and I am making the Vintage Knits Cardigan out of Cerise. I've got enough Bluebird for a shortsleeved sweater, and my sister just gifted me 4 more balls of Citrine.

Southwest Trading Company Bamboo. Nice earthy/woodsy feel, kind of like linen. I made a shawl out of 2 balls of fiesta. I have 3 balls of "azure" and 5 balls of "parrot." "Bougainvilla" or "Butter" call out to me next.

SOY SILK

Soy Silk Phoenix. I made a ridged ribbon scarf out of 2 balls of Chocolate. Soft and yummy like chocolate soymilk. I'd love to go for the pinks, purples, or reds, or perhaps something different like the turquoise?

Soy Silk Oasis. I love the soy silk phoenix yarn, so I'd love to try oasis. The "purplexed," "rose," "perfectly pink," actually all of it is exciting.

Soy Silk Infinity. I have one cone of this lace weight soy silk. I'd like to learn how to dye this stuff, or I might just keep it at its natural off white color. Like Edensoy.

COTTON AND COTTON BLENDS

Pakucho Organic Cotton. I love all the natural colors, but I lean toward my favorite foods -- Avocado and Chocolate!

Manos Del Uruguay Cotton Stria. The first day I bought yarn, I bought a hank of this, and I still love it. It's soft, all the colors are great, and it works up wavy and dreamy.

Blue Sky Cotton. Every color is great here -- the hot pink, the cumin and lemongrass (food), the orangey color... I'm making a big hat out of the pink, burgundy, and orange colors.

Blue Sky Organic Cotton. I LOVE the white organic cotton. I've made a headband and a babyhat, and I'd love to make more. The softest cotton ever.

Araucania Patagonia Nature Cotton There are so many colors here that I like.

Rowan Calmer One of the softest yarns ever. 75% Cotton/25% Microfiber. I've got enough light green to make a short sleeved sweater and some random balls of purple for legwarmers or socks!

Knitpicks Shine. A cotton/modal blend that is not only soft but really cheap!

Classic Elite Premiere A cotton/tencel blend. I ordered some from Webs to make a ruffle scarf, but I had to return it because it had an awful smell that I don't want to describe here. From what I gathered from the small amount of touching I allowed myself to do, it's soft. They were really good about returning it, and offered to send more but I didn't want. Bad associations.

Cascade Pima Tencel. I want to try this yarn soon. Great colors. I really like the tank pattern they feature with the yarn. Carrie made her "fad classic" in this, and I'd like to give that a go, too.

Cascade Fixation. Sock yarn! I have a huge list of the colors I like.

OTHER

Banana Silk. Yarn made from banana, who knew? I have 3 hanks of red and one of lovely pinks and purples, but I'm on the lookout for the perfect project for it all.

House of Hemp. Everything looks exciting here.

Louet Euroflax. One of my favorite store bought sweaters is made of 100% linen. I'd love to make a sweater out of this.
